Doug Knott, 67 years young, is bravely taking his FIRST LADIES
creative talents into his first one man show – “Last of
the Knotts”. He is comfortable performing as a poet in
the Los Angeles area and has done so since the 80s.
However, this is a portrayal of his life story, which is
touted as semi-autobiographical and a comi-tragedy.
Doug is quick to state it is not a comedy, yet it will
make you laugh and cry for him.
Knott’s father was a South Florida patriarch and
judge. He wanted his only son to give him a grandson.
However, Doug became a LA hipster-poet and felt he
had taken more than enough childhood abuse from his
father, which he refers to as a ‘redneck Judge’. For years
he exclaimed, “I am the last of the
Knotts”, rebelling against his father. However, as you might imagine life takes a turn and Doug must
decide ‘to be or Knott to be… a father’.
Doug has produced and emceed variety shows and owned a nightclub called
Famous-Knott on La Brea in Hollywood. He toured the Western states in the 90s with the poetry
group, Carma Bums. He is the author of many poetry books, and has won national awards for several
poetry videos. Doug Knott will be performing the “Last of the Knotts” as a benefit show for Beyond
Baroque at Theatre Asylum located at 6320 Santa Monica Blvd in Hollywood on April 15th at 3:00 p.m.
This is a one hour solo and tickets are $15.00 in advance, $20 at the door
