Did you know that August 20th is Bacon Lover’s Day which brings a smile to my face and happy thoughts of makin’ bacon for any meal of the day. One of my favorites is a BLT, a bacon, lettuce, tomato sandwich. Recently, I discovered Dave’s Killer Bread and it is really good – for those of us still eating gluten on occasion. It is 100% organic and non GMO (genetically modified organisms). The company story is quite interesting as well.

The parents began the bakery in 1955. Their sons eventually took it over. One brother, Dave served 15 years in prison and turned his life around when he got out with the help of brother, Glenn. In 2005, the brothers Dave and Glenn Dahl created and sold Dave’s Killer Bread product for the 1st time. It really took off. The company is a Second Chance Employer, offering ex-cons a place to land if they are serious about making a change for the good.

In August 2015, Flowers Foods, Inc.* bought the company for $275 million and now can be found in more than 22,000 stores. *It is the largest organic bread company in North America.
